Fuego! Free Carnival Weekend

August 29 @ 12:00 pm - August 30 @ 8:00 pm BST

Once again, the massive celebration that is Notting Hill Carnival will be sorely missed, but there is no reason why we can’t bring the true spirit of carnival to Hackney Wick !

On Sunday 29th & Monday 30th August, we are taking over https://hwunderground.co.uk/ outdoor space (right opposite Hackney Wick overground exit) to put on a free 2-day carnival party with a beast of a sound system!

The sound system itself is a handcrafted 4 ways A.S.S. (Acoustic Sound System) full-stack unit, made of 16 subs, lows, mids and highs cabinets. A.S.S. stacks are incredibly rare and rated amongst the most performant high fidelity loudspeaker systems ever built in the UK.

********* Sunday *********

12:00 – 20:00 / Free entry

On Sunday we welcome the legendary Gladdy Wax (aka Mr Vinyl Fingers) who is quite simply one of the UK’s most highly respected revival selectors and sound men. He has been running his own sound system for over 40 years now. Gladdy’s talents don’t stop there though; he is also a formidable MC and singer. He was a DJ for Birmingham’s Quaker City sound in the 1970s and released several records in the 1980s under the names Gladwin Wright and Gladdy Wax.

Super chuffed to bring our friend, Eglo Records label boss and Rinse Fm’s most diverse selector, Alexander Nut. He has made a name for himself blending all corners of the contemporary music spectrum into a glimmering prism of late-night futurism, regularly playing a mutant brew of bass heavy sounds from hip hop to house to dubstep and beyond, showcasing a plethora of producers with a mixing style all his own.

Joining them on the day, Chris P Cuts, one of the most exciting DJs in London. Evolving and fearless in selection, Chris has tirelessly searched for and championed new underground music from across the globe.

Also on the bill, the one and only Leanne Wright. From working at Honest Jon’s in the ‘90s to holding down a monthly residency on Worldwide FM, Leanne continues to leave her mark across the UK’s music scenes.

Cosmo Sofi, Miche and Frank is Franck will be rounding up this tasty line-up.

********* Monday *********

On Monday we welcome Ashanti Selah, Musician / Dub Producer and the eldest son of the world- renowned soundman, Aba Shanti-I. “Keeping the Roots & Culture fire burning bright, Ashanti Selah is set to play a crucial role in the future of conscious sound system music”.

Joining him on the bill, Culture B, the Jamaican sound system performer raised in London. He started in the 1970s with Prince Melody, then developed Foundation Sound in West London. Culture B has toured as MC with stars including Johnny Clarke, Luciano, Alborosie, Alton Ellis, Derrick Harriott, Omar Perry, Earl 16 and Michael Profit.

If that wasn’t enough, Belly to Belly the collective specialising in late 70s, early 80s roots and dancehall played on original vinyl will be teaming with Community HiFi, the Sound System collective deeply rooted in the East London West Indian community. The powerful and veteran legend Ras Rim Bim will also join the party!
